We want your views on proposals to introduce a UK-wide extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme for packaging waste.
Consultation description
The proposals aim to:
- increase the amount of packaging that is collected and recycled
- incentivise the design of packaging to making it easier to recycle
- help us move to a more circular economy and becoming a zero waste nation by 2050 as set out in our Beyond Recycling strategy.
- make businesses cover the full net costs for the management of their packaging materials when they have come to the end of their intended life.
A parallel consultation is taking place on the introduction of a deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers in Wales, England and Northern Ireland.
