Description of role and organisation
The Council consists of 14 members including the Chairperson. The Chairperson is elected from amongst its membership in accordance with the Education (Wales) Act 2014 and the Council’s Standing Orders. Members represent a range of interests of the education workforce in Wales. The Council sets the strategic direction for the EWC and is responsible for its governance. Two vacancies for Council members remain and will be appointed as quickly as possible through nomination.
Appointment type or extension
The tenures for both new and re-appointed members is four years from 1 April 2023. Posts are not remunerated however, members may be reimbursed for reasonable travel and subsistence costs. Members have a typical time commitment 12 days per year.
These appointments were made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments on gov.uk.
Political activity
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. In accordance with the Nolan principles, there is a requirement for the political activity of appointees (if any declared) to be published.
