Summary

Project status: the scheme is now in the ‘defect period’ stage of the works. Outstanding works are being completed whilst the road is open to traffic.
Region: mid Wales
Employers agent: Corderoy
ECI contractors: Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd
Designer: Atkins, TACP

Why we did it

The junction joining the A483 and A489 was regularly congested. The industrial development of Newtown was hampered by congestion issues. Improving the junction should help industry grow in this area.

Current progress

The bypass opened in early 2019. The project is currently completing outstanding works. These works should be completed by autumn 2019.

How we consulted

We held a public consultation exhibition in summer 2009 in Newtown.

Proposals discussed the 2010 preferred route plus alternative options and were displayed at a public information exhibition in summer 2013. This resulted in a modified preferred route being announced in spring 2014. The route was viewed by over 600 people at another public information exhibition in spring 2014.

In summer 2015 there was a public local inquiry.
