West Farm Wood
A newly planted woodland created through exceptional collaboration.
Helping grow the National Forest, West Ford Farm is a newly planted woodland. It has been created through exceptional collaboration between volunteer groups, Pembrokeshire Council, landowners, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Health boards leading to this unique community initiative where midwives started planting trees for each baby born or adopted in Pembrokeshire.
Connecting with the community, it serves as an important resource both environmentally and for mental wellbeing. It’s a place to explore, volunteer and connect with nature. The planting of the trees has also supported the local midwives and volunteers own wellbeing being a beneficial recreational activity away from a stressful job.
There are a variety of tree species planted in West Ford Farm, including Oak, Dogwood, Hazel, Hawthorn and Willow. As the land was previously too wet for any other purpose, it has benefited the area ecologically and environmentally. This new forest aims to boost biodiversity and help reduce flooding, contributing to tackling climate change.
The success of West Ford Farm will hopefully lead to the creation of similar woodlands in coming years.
