Nominated for International award

Dewi Rogers, originally from North East Wales but now living in Perugia, Italy, has been chosen as a Finalist for the International category of the St David Awards for his work as an internationally recognised expert in water management.

He studied Civil Engineering at Cardiff University before going to work for the UK National Water Research Centre, where he developed innovative technology involving mathematical simulation models to identify leaky pipes. The methodology is so successful that it is still considered state of the art. It has been applied with impressive results in more than 40 countries around the world.

He has been based in Italy for many years, where he set up his own consultancy company. He has trained hundreds of young engineers and improved the quality of life of millions of people around the world. He is an expert consultant to the World Bank and other international agencies.

Dewi is also at the forefront of developing expert computer systems capable of automatically operating water systems at their most efficient point, including the PALM+ system which is an evolved version of a support tool that he created as part of a successful European-funded project that Dewi directed.

Thanks to his efforts, billions of litres of water have been saved every year.
