Proposals to stop the national annual rough sleeper count
Data for November 2020 onwards
The Welsh Government ended the annual national rough sleeper count with immediate effect in August 2024.
This decision followed a consultation with users and was based on:
- more frequent rough sleeper data being available through the Homelessness Accommodation Provision and Rough Sleeping publication
- reducing the burden on local authorities
The count was previously suspended:
- between 2020 and 2022 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
- in 2023 by the Chief Statistician
We will continue to:
- check that we are meeting users’ data needs through our stakeholder groups
- review the quality of rough sleeper information in the Homelessness Accommodation Provision and Rough Sleeping publication
