Purpose
Change Board provides strategic oversight of the programme of work outlined in 'Education in Wales: Our national mission' (the programme), with specific focus on 3 key areas of reform which are:
- the curriculum
- professional learning
- accountability
The board is responsible for ratification of recommendations in respect of programme decisions. The board provides assurance on key issues and recommendations for decisions and on matters escalated from the programme’s operational Delivery Board.
Key tasks
The board will:
- provide assurance on any issues/decisions on any matters escalated from the Delivery Board, and
- consider headline reporting on the programme’s performance and via a programme report.
Roles and responsibilities
Board members are responsible for:
- championing the programme and its delivery aims within their own organisation and with external organisations and stakeholders, and
- cascading information, actions and decisions arising from Board meetings to the teams/organisations they represent
Frequency of meetings
The board normally meets bi-monthly, but meetings may be held more frequently if required. Where necessary, decisions can be made out of committee.
Secretariat
The board is serviced by the Welsh Government Education Directorate’s programme team.
Membership
Membership of Change Board includes senior representation at Managing Director/Chief Executive/Director level from the middle tier including local authorities, diocesan authorities, regional education consortia, Estyn, Qualifications Wales and the Education Workforce Council.
