Nurturing and strengthening the Foundational sectors which deliver the everyday goods and services that people across Wales depend on is central to the Welsh Government’s Economic Resilience and Reconstruction plan.

We have all seen and recognised through the course of the pandemic, that the Foundational sectors of Wales’ economy, such as social care, food, retail and construction, are the pillars which have kept our communities safe and secure.

Taking further action to help strengthen our Foundation sectors should be a priority for all of us in the months and years ahead. I am today publishing a Delivery Plan to summarise what we have done to support the Foundational sectors of our economy during this term of Government and to set out steps for developing a future strategy which could further grow our Foundational sectors.

The vital contribution that these sectors make to our wellbeing endorses the Welsh Government’s focus to fortify and grow these parts of the economy.

Encouraging progress and momentum has been developed. The Foundational Delivery Plan provides the basis of a blueprint which can help ensure continued engagement with social partners so that future activity across government is further connected to maintain focus on using all policy and delivery levers available to strengthen the Foundational sectors.
