Introduction
Care Inspectorate Wales registers and inspects providers of child minding and day care in Wales.
Not all persons/providers offering childcare, play and activities for children are required to register with Care Inspectorate Wales. A set of exceptions identify circumstances where persons/providers are not required to register.
These exceptions are explained in our guidance documents.
Provision up to and including 31 March 2027
All providers will need to consider their provision against the Child Minding and Day Care Exceptions (Wales) Order 2010.
Providers should use the 2010 Order guidance to understand the exceptions that apply to provision operating during this period.
Provision from 1 April 2027
All providers will need to consider their provision against the Child Minding and Day Care Exceptions (Revocation and Transitional Provision) (Wales) Order 2026, which comes into force on that date.
Providers should use the 2026 Order guidance to understand the exceptions that apply to provision operating from 1 April 2027.
