The Greyhound Racing Ban Implementation Group will provide advice to Welsh Ministers on how a ban will come into force.

There is a lot of work to do before the greyhound racing ban comes into force. Welsh Ministers want those involved in racing to move towards the ban in a planned way. The Greyhound Racing Ban Implementation Group provides practical advice to Welsh Ministers to support this transition.

Our priorities include the welfare of greyhounds, alongside the impact of the ban on the local community and economy.

The aims of the Implementation Group are to:

  • protect the welfare of racing greyhounds now and throughout the transition.
  • mitigate pressure on the rescue and rehoming sector
  • establish best practice for the transition, by considering approaches in other countries
  • offer practical solutions to mitigate the social and economic impacts of the ban
  • support those in the industry through the transition
