Original consultation
We want your views on proposed changes to data about the additional learning needs (ALN) system in Wales.
Consultation description
This consultation seeks your views on the Welsh Government proposals to change the data we collect about the ALN system in local authority maintained schools and non-school settings.
We are making this change because, from September 2025, the ALN system is the only system for supporting children and young people with additional learning needs in Wales.
This will help the Welsh Government and responsible bodies better support learners with ALN and monitor and improve the ALN system.
The consultation focuses on proposed changes to ALN data which local authorities, schools and non-school settings record and the Welsh Government collects. This includes information about:
- individual children and young people with ALN attending maintained education settings in Wales or who are Educated Other than at School (EOTAS)
- ALN provision and delivery of the ALN system within maintained education settings
- individual level data on the education workforce in maintained settings
