Summary

The Bengal Dragons Foundation (BDF) aimed to support the Muslim community in South Wales in transitioning to cleaner energy systems and reducing energy costs. Acting as intermediaries and project promoters, BDF worked with the Energy Service to upskill communities and deliver solar and battery installations across seven properties.

Our support

Introduced the project to Ynni Teg, supported grant applications, and provided project management and technical guidance throughout delivery.

Technology solution

  • 7 solar PV systems (9-18 kWp each).
  • 20 kWh battery storage systems at each location.
  • 7 kW EV charging points with 4 sockets.
  • Solar-linked immersion controllers for hot water tanks at 5 properties.
  • Infrared heaters installed at 1 property.

Investment

  • Development funded by Ynni Teg as community benefit; capital costs 100% funded by Ynni Cymru.

Impact

  • Estimated 0.22 MW of renewable energy capacity installed.
  • Forecasted 335 tCO₂e savings over project lifetime.
  • Two local installation companies engaged, supporting local subcontractors and boosting the community economy.

The Energy Service was instrumental in bringing the Bengal Dragons Foundation and Ynni Teg together and helping us to scope the community’s ambitions into realisable projects. We are grateful for their continued interest in our progress and the advice given. We look forward to their continued support as we develop the next stages of the wider project.
