Gregynog
Lying in the heart of Wales Gregynog is a site full of history and culture.
Its historic hall is 12th century, and the estate is mosaic habitat of different woodlands and a nature reserve. 94 hectares of the site have been awarded National Forest for Wales status.
The estate not only has a hall and substantial forestry area, but it is also home to some unique species and historic culture. The woodland is a globally significant area of scientific interest with rare lichens, redstarts, pied flycatchers and three woodpecker species. The magnificent Gregynog Oak is thought to be five centuries old and was the Welsh nominee for Tree of the Year in 2024.
For these reasons, as well as its connectivity with other woodlands and accessibility across the site it meets all National Forest for Wales Outcomes. The vast woodlands host events like fairy trails, photography competitions and sport activities regularly.
Its open grounds continue to be a place for learning, education and immersing yourself in the wildlife. We are pleased it is contributing to the National Forest for Wales, an ambitious long-term Programme committing to maintaining sustainable woodlands for future generations.
