Breastfeeding rates have risen this quarter at ages 6 weeks and 6 months, with breastfeeding at 6 weeks being the highest on record. Breastfeeding rates at birth and 10 days both fell slightly since last quarter.

At birth, the breastfeeding rate for Wales was 64.6%. This is a decrease of 1.3 percentage points since the previous quarter, an increase of 0.4 percentage points on the same quarter last year, and an increase of 7.0 percentage points on the first quarter for which there is comparable data (July to September 2014).
At 10 days, the breastfeeding rate for Wales was 58.6%. This is a decrease of 0.3 percentage points on the previous quarter, an increase of 0.7 percentage points on the same quarter last year, and an increase of 14.0 percentage points on the first quarter for which there is comparable data (July to September 2014).
At 6 weeks, the breastfeeding rate for Wales was 47.4%. This is an increase of 1.2 percentage points on the previous quarter, an increase of 2.2 percentage points on the same quarter last year, and an increase of 16.9 percentage points on the first quarter for which there is comparable data (July to September 2014).
At 6 months, the breastfeeding rate for Wales was 33.4%. This is an increase of 0.7 percentage points on the previous quarter, an increase of 1.4 percentage points on the same quarter last year, and an increase of 15.1 percentage points on the first quarter for which there is comparable data (July to September 2015).
Breastfeeding rates are calculated for records with a known breastfeeding status; breastfeeding status is missing from at least 10% of records at birth increasing to 17% of records at 6 months.
