Qualifying statement for bathing water classifications 2025
The bathing water classifications for the 2025 season have been provided by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) in accordance with the Bathing Water Regulations. These classifications are based on monitoring data collected over the 2025 bathing season and the preceding seasons, where appropriate.
The classifications reflect the best available evidence and robust methodologies, however due to challenges in the sampling process at fifteen sites in 2024, NRW excluded some data from its analysis. This approach, though precautionary, ensures that classifications for these sites have been awarded based on the required number of samples for classification purposes, but with longer-than-required intervals between samples. As a result, the classifications have undergone statistical analysis to assess their reliability.
The bathing water programme is designed to provide an indication of water quality, rather than an absolute measure of its condition. Classifications are intended to guide public health advice and environmental management. As such, they offer a general indication of bathing water quality, but they should not be seen as a definitive or exhaustive assessment of water.
