Nominated for Business award

Brød – The Danish Bakery, established in 2015 by Betina Skovbro, stands as a shining beacon of cultural heritage and business excellence within Cardiff. Drawing deeply on her Danish roots, Betina has introduced Wales to authentic Scandinavian baking, successfully transforming Brød from a humble neighbourhood café into a nationally celebrated artisan bakery.

Welcoming thousands of customers every week, Brød has evolved into a distinctive, vibrant community hub. Now operating across 4 sites, the business provides employment to over 40 staff, actively nurturing talent from entry-level to skilled roles. Its dedication to economic sustainability is highlighted by hosting 10 apprenticeships in its first decade, offering crucial opportunities for new bakers to develop artisan skills.

Additionally, Brød prioritises the local economy by sourcing ingredients regionally and minimising food waste through digital platforms like Too Good To Go. This exceptional blend of cultural tradition, skilled craftsmanship, and community spirit makes Brød a truly deserving nominee for the St David Award for Business in Wales.
