Alan is a national dinghy sailing coach and coach developer from Caernarfon.
He has been pivotal in coaching and supporting young sailors to develop from grass roots dinghy sailing on the coastal waters and lakes of Wales to international sailing competitions and the Olympic Games.
Alan coaches year-round, often in challenging sea states and strong winds, supporting sailors to develop their skills.
He has inspired several generations and ensured that sailors and their families have a lifelong love for the sport. Many he has coached are now involved professionally or volunteering across Wales and the UK.
Alan teaches national race coaching qualifications and has authored 2 dinghy sailing coaching books translated into numerous languages.
He has been instrumental in developing safety management strategy at UK level and is passionate about driving excellence in coaching and mentoring.
In 2019, Alan received the BBC Wales & Sports Coach UK Coaching Chain Award for coaching Hannah Mills OBE(MBS) OLY, and in 2003 became the Royal Yachting Association's UK Racing Coach of the Year.
