Dawn Bowden MS, Minister for Children and Social Care
Following the Health and Social Care Committee’s pre-appointment hearing on 4 March and its endorsement of Katija Dew as the preferred candidate, I am pleased to announce that I have now appointed Katija to take up the role as the new Chair of Social Care Wales’ Board. I am grateful to the Committee’s scrutiny of this appointment process.
The Chair is responsible for leading Social Care Wales’ Board in providing strategic leadership and vision to guide the body in fulfilling its purpose within the context of the Welsh Government’s strategic aims and policies. The Chair, with the Board, will ensure that Social Care Wales is working in line with procedures and policies, is spending money well and in the right way, and has clear ways to manage risks that may affect the organisation.
Katija brings with her a wealth of experience in the social care and health sectors, which I am confident will provide Social Care Wales with the necessary support and leadership to help shape the organisation to meet the challenges ahead. Subject to pre-appointment checks, Ms Dew will take up her role on 16 July 2026 for a term of four years.
I should also like to thank Mick Giannasi, current Chair of Social Care Wales, for the significant contributions he has made during his service since 2019.
