4. Specific policy objectives of the scheme

Our mission is, through the administering of a flexible training grant, to empower Wales-based employers to upskill their workforces in artificial intelligence-related skills areas, driving enhanced productivity, efficiency, and profitability while delivering lasting economic benefit to the nation, as well as providing greater degrees of support and cooperation between Welsh Government and the AI sector.

5. Purpose of the scheme

The AI Skills Pilot Subsidy Scheme will, through the subsidy of eligible training costs, help Wales-based employers to address the AI skills challenges they face in their businesses by enhancing the skills capabilities of employees in the rapidly growing sector, which will also enable those individuals to further develop their careers.

The subsidy may be applied for by private and third-sector training companies operating in the AI sector and in any part of Wales, that wish to help employers upskill their workers regarding artificial intelligence best practices, ethics, and uses.

Direct grant.

12. Eligibility terms and conditions

Eligible costs include the training provided by the applicant training provider and any associated exams. It is subject to a full application and appraisal, including due diligence checks which ensure the applicant company and proposed training meets the eligibility requirements of the scheme. A Welsh Government grant award letter is issued to successful applicants which sets out the full terms and conditions of the award.

13. Basis for calculating subsidies

Awards may be made up to a maximum of £50,000 per employer in any financial year. The subsidy comes in the form of a direct grant to the applicant and is paid at a flat rate of 75% of eligible training costs, regardless of size of the business.
