The Rail Accident Investigation Branch have now published their final report into the collision between two passenger trains near Talerddig on 21 October 2024.

My thoughts are with the family of David Tudor Evans, who sadly lost his life, as well as the passengers injured in the incident and railway staff affected by the event.

I would like to thank the Rail Accident Investigation Branch for their diligence and dedication in carrying out their detailed and thorough investigation into this incident.

The report sets out nine clear recommendations for the railway industry, including for Transport for Wales and Network Rail. I expect the railway industry in Wales to carefully consider the recommendations, the report itself in detail, and to work together to take the necessary actions to help prevent any similar incident occurring in the future. I have asked the railway industry to keep me informed of the actions they are taking to ensure that the safety of passengers and railway staff is always the highest priority.

Incidents such as this are extremely rare on the rail network. It is important that we take time to reflect on the impact this incident has had on the family of David Tudor Evans and on the passengers and rail staff on board the two trains involved.
