The UK Covid-19 Inquiry published its fourth report, ‘Vaccines and Therapeutics’, on 16 April 2026. The report examined the development, procurement, authorisation, deployment and safety monitoring of Covid-19 vaccines and therapeutics across the UK and made five recommendations.

Having considered the report and its five recommendations, we have today written to the Chair, Baroness Heather Hallett DBE, with the Welsh Government’s response, which is available on our Covid-19 Inquiry internet page.

In preparing the Welsh Government’s response, officials have worked with partners across the NHS in Wales and with devolved governments. The response explains how the recommendations will be taken forward in Wales, including the actions and milestones that will support implementation. Progress will be reported through the agreed six-monthly Covid-19 Inquiry update cycle, with the first update on this module due in May 2027.

We recognise the lasting impact of the pandemic on people and communities across Wales and offer our sincere condolences to those who were bereaved. We remain grateful to everyone who supported the vaccination programme and wider pandemic response. We will use the Inquiry’s findings to strengthen future planning, improve equitable access and support Wales’ preparedness for future public health emergencies.
