On the 13 June, I represented the Welsh Government at the twenty-second Summit of the British-Irish Council (BIC) in Guernsey. The Summit was chaired by Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq.  The Summit was attended by lead Ministers from the other BIC Member Administrations including;

  • An Taoiseach, Mr. Enda Kenny TD, of the Irish Government
  • Deputy Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP of the UK Government,
  • Northern Ireland Executive First Minister, the Rt Hon Peter Robinson MLA, and the deputy First Minister, Mr Martin McGuinness MLA
  • Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Ms Fiona Hyslop MSP of the Scottish Government,

  • Chief Minister, Hon. Allan Bell MHK of the Government of the Isle of Man.

The British-Irish Council continues to promote and develop links between its Member Administrations and be a forum for consultation and co-operation.

On the agenda were economic updates from Member Administrations; a discussion on the economic importance of transport links and consideration of the ongoing work of the Council.

The key discussion points of the twenty-second Summit were published in a joint Communiqué.
