In statements from my predecessor, Members were advised of the action that is being taken to address the shortcomings identified during the inspection of education services for children and young people in Monmouthshire.  We said that we would keep Members informed of progress in respect of the Recovery Board we established to support the authority.

Today I am announcing a change to the recovery board’s membership.  I am augmenting the board to provide further support to the authority specifically around the issue of school improvement.  As such I am appointing Eileen Barnes Vachell to the Monmouthshire Board.

Eileen has a background in school improvement gained as a Broker Adviser at Department for Education and former London Challenge Adviser.  Eileen has also worked as an OFSTED inspector.

As Eileen is currently also a member of the Anglesey Recovery Board it allows her to bring her experience of their recovery journey to bear in Monmouthshire.  This builds on my department’s approach to sharing experience and expertise across and between boards.

I will continue to keep colleagues updated as progress is made.
