Accessing the Wales Safeguarding Repository

The Wales Safeguarding Repository (WSR) stores Single Unified Safeguarding Reviews (SUSRs), past Domestic Homicide Reviews, Adult Practice Reviews, Child Practice Reviews and Mental Health Homicide Reviews. 

Findings from searching the WSR can be used to:

• inform current SUSRs in progress
• identify good practice
• support learning on a pan-Wales basis

The repository can also be used to inform other research studies and policy work that may be undertaken.

Prior to applying for WSR access it is important to familiarise yourself with the terms of use agreement. You will be required to confirm your consent prior to being granted access. Please also read the privacy notice to understand how your personal data will be collected, used and protected.

You may only use the WSR for the following permitted purposes. That is to:

• identify primary learning from previous reviews as part of an ongoing SUSR and to inform the development of the terms of reference for the review by highlighting previous recommendations that should be taken into consideration
• improve safeguarding practice and learning for individuals and agencies providing frontline delivery of public services, for example, police officers, social workers, GPs, health care providers
• produce annual thematic reports
• research emerging themes
• undertake training needs analysis
• undertake historical review analysis and data extraction
• facilitate evidence-based research
• identify and develop good practice guides

To access the WSR you must also be able to confirm you are one of the following permitted users: 

• regional safeguarding board and community safety partnership staff
• SUSR reviewers, chairs and review panel members
• national independent safeguarding board staff
• members of the SUSR Support Network (Ministerial Board, Strategy Group and Victim and Family Reference Group)
• members of the Welsh Government Tasking and Coordination Group
• relevant public sector staff
• relevant third sector staff
• relevant academic staff and students
• relevant associations and membership bodies
• other relevant professionals on a case by case basis

How you can apply for access

First check that you will be able to demonstrate in your application that:

• your current role is included within the permitted user list above 
• your use of the repository will be in line with the permitted purposes 
• you have read, and agree with, the terms of use agreement. 

Then complete the access application form in the next section to make a request for access. The SUSR Coordination Hub will review your application and confirm whether access can be granted and if so how to enter the repository.
