• providing independent advice on all aspects of medicines including the regulation of medicines
• ensuring that pharmaceutical services are developed to meet specific healthcare needs
• leading the modernisation of pharmaceutical services and continuing professional development of pharmacists
• working with other UK government departments to co-ordinate pharmaceutical advice and information
