Examining the barriers to visiting heritage sites in the UK.

This research explores the reasons why heritage sites were not considered for days out and looked to understand what is likely to attract visits in the future.

The research found that several factors combine to deter infrequent and non-visitors from visiting heritage sites more often or at all, including that they’re not easy enough to get to for a day out and that people don't know enough about what's there to do / see when they get there.

There were multiple factors that would increase likelihood of visiting by those not currently engaged, including an onsite café, more interactive information, more for children to do and more events. There was also a lack of awareness about examples of the above that already exist at Cadw sites.
