Bringing your pet to Wales from Ukraine (Homes for Ukraine Scheme)

If you are from Ukraine and seeking refuge in the UK, you can follow the rules for bringing your pet to Great Britain (at GOV.UK) without your dog, cat or ferret going into quarantine or isolation if your pet:

  • is microchipped
  • has been vaccinated against rabies
  • had a blood test at least 30 days after its rabies vaccination to check that the vaccine worked, and waited 3 months after the blood test before travelling to the UK
  • has a GB pet health certificate (at GOV.UK)
  • if it is a dog, had tapeworm treatment between 24 hours (1 day) and 120 hours (5 days) before travelling

If your pet does not have a GB pet health certificate but does have an EU pet passport, call the Animal and Plant Health Agency on +44 3000 200 301 for advice.

It is extremely important the pet meets all those requirements. Owners or sponsors may also need to contact the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to apply for a licence to bring the pet to Wales (at GOV.UK).

If a pet arriving in Wales doesn't meet all these requirements, it will need to enter quarantine in authorised facilities for up to four months.

Guide and assistance dogs

If you have a ‘recognised assistance dog’ you can:

  • travel on more routes (at GOV.UK) than people with pets
  • use forms of transport where other animals are not allowed, for example you can bring your dog into the aircraft cabin

Guide and assistance dogs must also meet the normal rules (at GOV.UK) for travelling with dogs.
