Original consultation
We want your views on extending the closure of the Conwy Bay and Estuary Mussel Fishery from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
Consultation description
We plan to extend the closure of this fishery for a further 12 months, because:
- the fishery is within the Menai Strait and Conwy Bay Special Area of Conservation, and the Aber Afon Conwy Site of Special Scientific Interest, to protect vulnerable species and habitats
- we have received scientific advice that the fishery should only be subject to very limited and restricted mussel gathering and that it should otherwise remain closed
