Introduction

We introduced the Coastal Capacity Building Fund in 2023. We have extended the fund for a further two years. It will support revenue projects to:

  • enhance social capital
  • enable grass-roots investment to coastal communities
  • meet fisheries objectives from the Fisheries strategic approach, and
  • increase public understanding of the marine environment and the challenges it faces

Key features

The purpose of this scheme is to build stakeholder capacity in coastal communities. The scheme aims to improve the sustainability and resilience of coastal communities by:

  • facilitating action to enable nature recovery
  • focussing on objectives from the Fisheries strategic approach, and
  • promote sustainable growth and diversification

The fund will also strengthen the connection between:

  • local coastal communities
  • the fisheries sector, and
  • nature

It will help people understand the actions they can take to make a difference. It will also ensure we have the capacity, skills and evidence in place to support future delivery.

The fund has a yearly budget of £260,000 available for two years and offers:

  • minimum grants of £20,000
  • up to 100% funding
  • up to 2 years to deliver the project
  • revenue only funding
