All schools are encouraged to develop their own Critical Incident Management Plan which they will invoke in the event of a crisis. This should include a plan for a potential Lockdown scenario. The protocol can sit alongside the school’s own plan and enable the Local Authority to work in partnership with the school in order to support them throughout the duration of the critical incident.

To effectively support schools during such incidents, it is important to a provide a timely response and co-ordinate the involvement of the appropriate LA officers and external agencies to support schools as required.
