Biography
Personal history
Davies was born in Aberdare and now lives in Grangetown, Cardiff. He studied at Ysgol Rhydfelen and at Aberystwyth University, gaining a doctorate for his work on globalisation and the Welsh economy.
Professional background
Davies was lecturer in Welsh politics at Aberystwyth University from 1998 to 2002, Chief Executive of Plaid Cymru from 2002 to 2007 and subsequently Registrar of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol until his election to the Senedd in 2026. He has also served as Chair of the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Board (2020-2025) a Board Member of Sport Wales (2019-2025), a Director of TooGoodToWaste (2010-2026) and Chair of Cardiff Cycle Workshop (2009-2019).
Political history
Davies has served as Chair, Chief Executive and National Treasurer of Plaid Cymru. From February 2023 until May 2024 Davies served as a Specialist and subsequently a Special Adviser in Welsh Government.
Davies was elected as a MS, representing the Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf constituency at the May 2026 Senedd election. He announced he would only use public transport or active travel during his duties in the Senedd; documenting any essential car use.
On 13 May 2026, Dafydd Trystan Davies was appointed as Cabinet Minister for Government Effectiveness and the Constitution.
