Dr Rob Orford is the Chief Scientific Adviser for Health

    The Chief Scientific Adviser for Health is the professional lead for healthcare scientists in NHS Wales.

    Dr Orford is also the Head of Health Science and Allied Health Professions Division at Welsh Government.

    He advises the government and ministers on matters relating to health science. He is the sponsor for national programmes such as:

    Dr Orford works  closely with the executive directors of Therapies and Health Science as well as Health Technology Wales. He is a sponsor of the Welsh Scientific Advisory Committee. 

    He is also a working group member of European Scientific Committee for Health, Environment and Emerging Risks.

    Dr. Orford has a honours degree in Molecular Biology, a PhD in molecular embryology and is a STEM Ambassador.

    His previous work experience includes:

    • post-doctoral scientist for Cancer Research UK and Medical Research Council
    • principal scientist and group leader for Public Health England
