Part 1 of the The Environment (Principles, Governance and Biodiversity Targets) (Wales) Act 2026 (“Environmental Governance Act”) places new duties on the Welsh Ministers, Natural Resource Wales and certain public authorities in relation to the environmental principles and integrating environmental protection.

Sections 6 and 7 of the Environmental Governance Act require the Welsh Ministers to prepare a draft of the Environmental Principles and Integrating Environmental Protection Statement (“the Statement”) and to consult on it before publication.

Responses to this consultation will inform the final wording of the Statement to ensure it is comprehensive and effective. Everyone is encouraged to contribute.
