Original consultation

This consultation seeks your views on amendments to the disciplinary and dismissal guidance for school staff.

Consultation description

The Staffing of Maintained Schools (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2014  changed the criteria in the 2006 Staffing Regulations regarding the requirement to have an independent investigation of child abuse allegations made against  members of staff in a school. The purpose of the independent investigation is to inform the governing body’s staff disciplinary and dismissal committees about allegations which if substantiated would be considered to be gross misconduct and so would be subject to a staff disciplinary hearing which may result in dismissal.

The changes to the law mean that our guidance in Circular 002/2013 needs amending. We seek your comments on an updated draft version of the guidance which accounts for the changes to the law and also refines and re-orders the information.
