Trio Sci Cymru was an EU funded programme to increase take up of and attainment in STEM subjects amongst 11-to-19-year-olds in Wales.

This report presents the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the evaluation of Trio Sci Cymru (TSC).

TSC was funded via the European Social Fund. TSC aimed to increase take up of and attainment in STEM subjects amongst 11-to-19-year-olds in Wales.

The evaluation found that:

  • delivery was disrupted by delayed funding, COVID-19 restrictions, and data collection challenges
  • the pandemic forced a rapid shift to virtual delivery, which broadened reach but reduced hands-on engagement and complicated impact measurement
  • TSC succeeded in boosting short-term STEM engagement, particularly among previously disengaged learners, but long-term impact on sustained STEM participation and attainment remains unclear
  • GCSE data showed a significant increase in A* grades in TSC schools, but not across other grade categories
