The Minister for Rural Affairs, North Wales and Trefnydd has appointed four new members of the Board of Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales.

The newly appointed members are:

  • Vicki Spencer-Francis
  • Caroline Sanger-Davies
  • Hugh Hesketh Evans
  • Michael Humphreys

The Minister has also re-appointed John Davies and Gareth Davies for a third term to the Board and Prys Morgan and Rhys Davies for a second term to the Board.

All appointments will run from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2026.

Role of board

Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) is the industry-led organisation responsible for the development, promotion and marketing of Welsh red meat. 

The role of the Board is to provide effective leadership, defining and developing strategic direction and setting challenging objectives, promoting high standards of public finance, and upholding the principles of regularity, propriety and value for money. The Board is responsible for monitoring HCC’s performance, ensuring that it meets the aims, objectives and performance targets set out in the corporate and business plans. 
Members of the Board of  Hybu Cig Cyrmu are remunerated at £300 per day for a maximum of 12 days per year. 

All appointments were made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments (on Gov.UK) and the Commissioner for Public Appointments was notified.

All appointments were made on merit following an open, competitive process. Political activity plays no part in the selection process. 

In the last five years, none of the appointees have been employed by a political party, held a significant office in a party, stood as a candidate for a party in an election, publicly spoken on behalf of a political party, nor made significant donations or loans to a party.
