Support from the Energy Services has enabled Grannell Community Energy to construct a community-owned wind turbine in Ceredigion.
Summary
In 2019 to 2020, Grannell Community Energy, a cooperative based in Mid-Wales, launched a community-owned wind turbine at Ffrwd Farm in Ceredigion. Developed in collaboration with the Welsh Government Energy Service, Renew Wales, and Secondwind, the turbine generates enough electricity to power 450 homes and is expected to save 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ over its lifetime. The project was one of the final UK schemes to benefit from the Feed-in Tariffs programme.
Our support
The Energy Service provided grant funding to cover project development costs, conducted detailed technical assessments, and supported the creation of a business case that secured finance from Welsh Government. Ongoing support is being provided to help Grannell Community Energy raise additional funds through community share offers.
