Introduction

The Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales (the Panel) met on Wednesday 30 November. 

The aim of the meeting was to discuss an update of the Panel website, prepare for the Welsh Government Diversity in Democracy events in early December and finalise their response to the White Paper on Electoral Administration and Reform.   

The Panel were provided with an update from Tom Smithson on his effectiveness review of the Panel. 

Below summarises the Panel’s discussions and decisions.

Update of Panel website

The Panel reviewed the paper provided by the Secretariat. This paper outlined the proposed changes to the website ahead of the publication of the final annual report in February 2023.

Effectiveness review

The Panel were updated on the effectiveness review by Tom Smithson. Tom presented conclusions to his findings. 

White Paper on Electoral Administration and Reform 

The Panel considered the consultation questions that related to their work and agreed the draft answers provided by the Vice Chair. These answers will be submitted as their response to the consultation ahead of the 10 January deadline.

Welsh Government research paper

The Panel discussed the research paper that was published by the Welsh Government Knowledge and Statistics division. The Panel were provided with a paper by the Secretariat which summarised the key themes emerging.

Any other business

Each Panel member fed back on the engagement events that were attended during the month of November. The Chair outlined the content of the meetings that are to be held in January and February 2023. 

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales will take place on Thursday 19 January.
