Details
Invasive non-native species (INNS) live in parts of the world they would not naturally be found and include:
- plants
- animals
- fungi
- micro-organisms
They can spread causing damage to the environment, the economy and our health. The cost to the UK economy has been estimated as at least £1.8 billion a year.
They can affect:
- farming
- horticulture
They can also affect:
- transport
- construction
- recreation
- aquaculture
- utilities
- wildlife
This strategy aims to minimise their risk by:
- encouraging everyone to work together better, including government, land managers and the public
- improving co-ordination and co-operation internationally
It covers 2015 to 2020.
