Upgrades supported by the Energy Service have significantly reduced energy use, carbon emissions, and costs for Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Summary

Between 2017 and 2022, Isle of Anglesey County Council implemented a wide-ranging energy efficiency programme across 31 buildings, including schools, leisure centres, and council offices as part of its Energy Efficiency Strategy. Supported by the Energy Service and delivered through the Re:fit Cymru programme, the upgrades have significantly reduced energy use, carbon emissions, and operational costs.

Our support

The Energy Service provided strategic and technical support throughout the project, including guidance on technology selection, funding and procurement options, and detailed technical assessments. This enabled the council to deliver impactful upgrades tailored to its resources and delivery strategy.

Technology solution

  • 752 kWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.
  • 4,800 LED light fittings.
  • 1,050 metres of pipework insulation.
  • 700 kW of air source heat pumps installed across sites.

Investment

  • Delivered through the Re:fit Cymru programme with support from the Energy Service.

Impacts

  • 31 sites upgraded.
  • 892 tonnes of CO₂ saved annually.
  • 3,411 MWh of energy savings per year.
  • £261,000 reduction in annual energy bills.
  • 2 new local jobs created.
  • Supports Isle of Anglesey County Council’s net zero carbon objectives.

The Re:fit Cymru programme and Welsh Government Energy Service have been instrumental in accelerating our net zero carbon objectives and we are now progressing the Phase 2 works in partnership with our selected service provider, Asset Plus.
