Stage 1: becoming a RWP

If you are a woodland planner, you will need to:

  • meet the eligibility requirements
  • complete the application process
  • agree to the Terms and Conditions

to be added to the Register.

We list Woodland Planner businesses on the register by the regions they cover. You will need to complete application forms for:

  • the business, and
  • the individual RWPs employed

We will add this information to the register, so customers can contact RWPs directly.

To qualify to be on the register

  • a business must have evidence of current Professional Indemnity Insurance up to £500,000
  • individual RWPs must either:

    • be a member of a Chartered Institute, for example:
      • Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF)
      • Chartered Institute of Ecologists and Environmental Managers (CIEEM)
      • Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS),

and adhere to the professional institute’s Code of Ethics, or

  • ensure each RWP has read the Terms and Conditions

We will confirm if you are eligible for the Register of Woodland Planners.

Stage 2: RPW Woodland Plan Register

All eligible businesses must register for a Customer Reference Number (CRN). This will allow grant applicants to select you as their RWP when applying for funding via the WPR. It will also allow you to submit woodland plans through the online system.

Once you have a CRN, you must contact the Customer Contact Centre (0300 062 5004). Rydym yn croesawu galwadau’n Gymraeg / We welcome calls in Welsh. They will complete an ‘add individual form’ for you. This will ensure individual planners (as well as the business) are on the register.

Ongoing review

We monitor the Register of Woodland Planners to ensure that RWPs still meet the criteria. We will remove any business or individual who no longer meets the criteria from both registers.

You must inform us if:

  • your business ceases to trade
  • you or an RWP in your business:
    • moves to another forestry business
    • retires, or
    • no longer practices forestry

You can contact us at We will then update the Register of Woodland Planners and the Woodland Plan Register.
