Kate Watkins

Kate Watkins is a member of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales

Kate moved to Wales in 1975 when she enrolled at University College, Cardiff to study social sciences.

She decided on a career in health services management and joined the NHS National Training Scheme on graduation.

She has held many different health service management posts, in south and mid-Wales, including leading the management development function for NHS Wales.  During her lengthy NHS career Kate had four children and chaired the governing body of her children’s primary school for four years.

She finished her NHS career as CEO of Newport Local Health Board.

After finding retirement rather dull, Kate took up a post as fitness to practise advisor for Wales for the General Medical Council, which she enjoyed for nine years.

On retiring for the second time, Kate still found it rather dull, so she was delighted to be appointed to serve on the Independent Remuneration Panel Wales in 2023.

Outside work, Kate is a keen gardener and antique collector. She lives in South Powys.
