The grant is from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities programme which aims to develop and improve facilities which prevent the loss of community services and provide services which help mitigate poverty and its effects.

The funding will be used to demolish the Club and re-build as an energy efficient, highly insulated structure that requires minimal heating. It will have low running costs which will aid future sustainability.

Announcing the funding Carl Sargeant said:

“When completed this will be a sustainable community facility in a deprived area where available facilities are few and access to services is limited. If the funding is not provided it is likely the current facility will eventually close.

“This will be the first Passive house community building in Wales and given the energy efficient features the design fits in well with the Wellbeing of Future Generation Act Goals.

“I am pleased to be able to approve funding to the Millbank Senior Citizens Club so that the important community activities on offer there, such as the youth club and training courses, can continue.”
