Main points
- The population of Wales is projected to increase by 3.1% to 3.21 million by 2026 and by 4.6% to 3.26 million by 2041.
- The number of children aged under 16 is projected to increase to 568,000 by 2026 before decreasing between 2026 and 2041, with a population of 549,000 in 2041. Overall, the number of children is projected to decrease by 1.5% between 2016 and 2041.
- The number of people aged 16 to 64 is projected to decrease by 81,000 (4.2%) between 2016 and 2041.
- The number of people aged 65 and over is projected to increase by 232,000 (36.6%) between 2016 and 2041.
