Nest real life stories: Mr Davies from Abergavenny

What is Nest?

Nest offers free, impartial energy saving advice to all households in Wales. Where eligible, it can also provide support with home energy improvements, including heating systems, insulation and solar panels. Since 2011, the scheme has carried out over 60,000 installations in homes across Wales.

A straightforward process

After researching the scheme online, Mr Davies felt reassured that Nest is funded by the Welsh Government — something that gave him confidence in both the quality of the work and the professionalism of the service.

Following a phone call to Nest, Mr Davies described the assessment process as "simple" and "straightforward." His property was assessed and he was approved for a new heat pump and solar panels.

The difference it has made

Since the installation, Mr Davies' home maintains a consistent, stable temperature — a significant change from life with an oil heating system, which brought unpredictable price swings, delivery delays and the ongoing need for tank maintenance.

With no oil purchases required and improved energy efficiency across the home, Mr Davies is already noticing the benefits.

"The heat and warmth within our property now is stable. It's nice that we have cleaner, greener energy and no fluctuation of oil prices."

He also welcomed the reassurance that came with government-backed support:
