Ali Abdi, Grange Pavilion
Finalist
Ali Abdi is a Community Organiser and Partnerships Manager at Grange Pavilion but also contributes to the work of Cardiff University, Citizens Cymru Wales, and the National Minority Ethnic Youth Forum.
Judges felt that Ali had demonstrated an ability to inspire, guide, and empower young people to shape their own futures while also influencing institutional partners to deliver meaningful change.
Ali is considered by many stakeholders to be a driving force in youth work, community development, and social justice. His leadership demonstrates the five pillars of Youth Work in Wales: educating through informal learning, empowering young people, promoting participation, fostering inclusivity, and providing expressive platforms for youth voices. Ali’s leadership builds confidence, skills, and lasting change, particularly for marginalised communities, ensuring every young person feels heard and valued.
One of the young people at Grange Pavilion commented:
“Ali encouraged me to get involved with the National Minority Youth Forum and helped me understand that my voice can make a difference. Participating in the Welsh Youth Parliament elections showed me that young people like me can be leaders at a national level.”
