Due to the coronavirus pandemic the collection of data from pupil referral units was not completed so exclusions data relates to maintained primary, middle, secondary and special schools only for 2018/19.
Main points
- In 2018/19 there were 0.5 permanent exclusions, 39.1 fixed-term exclusions of 5 days or fewer and 1.7 fixed-term exclusions over 5 days per 1,000 pupils in maintained schools.
- The rate of permanent exclusions in maintained schools has increased slightly in 2018/19 after staying the same in 2017/18.
