Planned move from the British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) to EIDCymru

Cattle registration and movement reporting in Wales is planned to move from the British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) and the Cattle Tracings System (CTS) to EIDCymru. 

EIDCymru is the Welsh livestock identification system that already manages sheep, goat and deer movement reporting. The intention is to create a Welsh system for all livestock registration and movement reporting. 

This change is planned for June 2027. 

For now, nothing changes. 

You should continue to: 

• register cattle births 
• report cattle movements 
• report cattle deaths 

through BCMS, exactly as you do now. 

When the change happens in the future: 

• cattle keepers in Wales will report cattle registrations and movements through EIDCymru instead of BCMS or CTS Online 
• support and guidance will be available 
• you will be given clear information about what you need to do 

No one will be expected to change systems without notice. 

From 1 July 2026 all cattle keepers in Wales have been able to create a cattle account on EIDCymru to view their BVD status as well as the BVD status of other cattle or herds. To create an account, please access EIDCymru via www.eidcymru.org and access the Cattle Service tile.  

To register: 

• click on the Register button
• enter your details. Click Register
• check your email inbox for a verification email, this will be active for 72 hours only
• create a new password. Click Submit
• select New keeper account. Click Continue 
• here you must enter your: Primary CPH, RPW CRN, and choose your preferred language. Click on Submit to complete the process

The transition to EIDCymru is progressing well. All Welsh BVD herd and animal status information is now available on EIDCymru. Most Welsh abattoirs are already reporting sheep, goat and cattle movements and deaths directly to EIDCymru, and Welsh livestock markets are expected to complete their transition by early 2027. 

Following discussions with farmers, industry representatives and other stakeholders, we have adjusted the timetable to avoid the busy spring calving period and give keepers more time to get ready: 

By 1 February 2027: All Welsh cattle keepers should be registered with EIDCymru and have set up their separate cattle account. 

From 7 June 2027: Use EIDCymru to report cattle births, movements and deaths. 

Until then, please continue to report cattle births, movements and deaths through BCMS as normal. 

EIDCymru is already used by many farmers in Wales for sheep, goat and deer movements. 

Guidance and support will be available to help cattle keepers, including: 

• online guidance 
• step-by-step instructions
• telephone support for those who need it 

Your cattle records will continue to be managed securely and properly. 

Your cattle data has been transferred to EIDCymru to link to the BVD status of your herd and/or cattle. You can view this data via your EIDCymru cattle account. 

Telephone support will continue to be available. 

You will not be required to manage cattle records online without help. 

For now, cattle keepers in Wales should: 

• register for an EIDCymru cattle account
• continue using BCMS as normal 
• keep your CPH and contact details up to date with EIDCymru, BCMS and RPW Online 
• look out for official updates from Welsh Government and EIDCymru 

Keeping your contact details up to date will help ensure you receive the latest 

You can: 

• contact EIDCymru if you have questions 
• check GOV.WALES for official updates 
• continue to use BCMS until you are told otherwise

Keepers will be given clear guidance, plenty of notice, and support ahead of any change.
