Office for National Statistics (ONS) have released the first set of annual estimates of gross domestic product for subnational areas of the UK.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

GDP in Wales in 2018 was £74.9 billion, an increase of 3.3 % from 2017. GDP for the UK (excluding extra-regio) rose by 3.1%.

GDP per head in Wales in 2018 was £23,866, an increase of 2.9% on 2017.

Gross Value Added (GVA) (balanced)

Total GVA in Wales in 2018 was £65.1 billion, up 3.3% on 2017. GVA for the UK (excluding extra-regio) rose by 3.1%.

GVA per head in Wales in 2018 was £20,738, up 2.9% on 2017. This is the third highest increase over the year of the 12 UK countries and English regions. GVA per head for the UK (excluding extra-regio) rose by 2.4%.

GVA per head in Wales in 2018 was 72.8% of the UK figure (excluding extra-regio), the second lowest of the UK countries and English regions. This was up 0.3 percentage points over the year.
