The report sets out the priorities, future support requirements and developing needs for strengthening the position of early education within the non-maintained sector in Wales.

The research found that most settings valued the support they received from responsible organisations (umbrella organisations, local authorities and education consortia).

Foundation Phase Development Officers felt that needed to broaden their knowledge in a number of ways, for example in early education.

Financial issues and future sustainability were of concern to both settings and stakeholders.

The research found a need for regular training from responsible organisations, to be delivered in a flexible way, on a range of topics.

An improvement in support was also required in relation to provision for additional learning needs, running a business, sharing effective practice, Welsh language and curriculum.
